View allI am moving into a house with natural gas
Moving is always a challenge and can often be disruptive when your new home is on natural gas when you are used to being on hydro. But thinking of natural gas as a step towards energy resilience can make it a bit easier.
The following tips should help smooth the way for you.
1. Meter reading and billing:
The natural gas billing cycle runs on set dates. That means new customers sometimes have to pay their first month’s bill on a pro-rata basis. Someone will come by every month to read your meter and make sure you are being billed fairly. Also, your consumption will be updated on your Customer Portal (if you are registered on the Portal).
2. Identifying equipment:
As soon as you move into your new home, find out which equipment runs on natural gas. Contact us to find out what options are available to you for them.
3. Transferring responsibility:
If you are a new owner or tenant, fill out the change of address form to transfer responsibility for the meter to your name. If you need help with this, we will always be happy to guide you through the process. Simply contact customer service or write to infogaz@enbridge.com.
4. Learning all about the safety measures:
There are several prevention and safety measures for your peace of mind:
- Installing carbon monoxide and smoke detectors.
- Arranging for regular maintenance of your natural gas appliances by certified professionals.
- Contacting the free info-ex.com service before digging in your yard.
We recommend checking out our energy efficiency programs and cash incentives to help you manage your energy consumption and keep your natural gas appliances running efficiently.
We also suggest considering gas from renewable sources (GRS), which is made from organic waste (biomass) from farms, forests, compost, landfill site and water treatment plants.
